Electronic privacy is regulated through a series of laws and regulations both at a state and federal level. Among those are the Video Protection Privacy Act (VPPA), the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), and the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA).
The VPPA the prohibits video tape service providers like from disclosing, to any person, personally identifiable information concerning any consumer of such provider. The CFAA protects people from unauthorized access to computers, for example by hacking or stealing a password. And the DPPA protects certain personal information contained in motor vehicle records.
